VR Gafsa

Gafsa, the ancient Capsa, is a city in southwestern Tunisia and the capital of the governorate of the same name. Located on the right bank of the Beyach wadi, it faces El Ksar on the left bank.
At the gates of the Sahara, Gafsa, a city of 100,000 inhabitants, is an almost obligatory stopover before plunging into the desert.

Its history is very old since traces of prehistoric settlements dated from 8,500 BC. AD to 5400 BC. were discovered there and bear witness to the Capsian civilisation. This adjective comes from Capsa, the name of Gafsa when it was founded in the 2nd century BC under the reign of Jugurtha. This Numidian king considered the city his treasure. If the Romans destroyed it in 107 BC, they rebuilt it and made it a municipality.
