VR Kairouan

Kairouan is a city located in the desert of northern Tunisia. Under the rule of the Aghlabid emirs, who built many of its monuments, it became a powerful trading city renowned for its school of Islamic learning in the 9th century. Built on the outskirts of the medina, the Great Mosque, with its ancient columns and imposing minaret, was built during this period and is an important site of pilgrimage. Going there 7 times would be equivalent to 1 hajj in Makkah.
Founded in 670, the city of Kairouan flourished under the Aghlabid dynasty in the 9th century. Despite the transfer of the political capital to Tunis in the 12th century, Kairouan remained the first holy city of the Maghreb. Its rich architectural heritage includes the Great Mosque, with its marble and porphyry columns, and the Three Doors Mosque, which dates from the 9th century.
